AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to UNC Pembroke Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.
The Pacers are now 1-2 on the season while the Braves improve to 5-2.
UNC Pembroke took a 1-0 lead in the 12
th minute of action. The visitors managed to go up 2-0 at the 24:03 mark.
USC Aiken's
Baylea Payne took the team's first shot attempt, which occurred in the 29
th minute of play. Her header sailed just wide of the frame.
The Pacers managed to record three corner kicks the rest of the half, but none resulted in a shot attempt.
Raegan Buchanan's attempt was saved in the 58
th minute. The strong defense continued to turn away UNCP attempts for much of the second half.
In the 74
th minute,
Willa Olson played a beautiful corner kick into the box, but USC Aiken was unable to convert. Buchanan recorded a shot at the 85:36 mark that would have sliced the deficit to just one, but the Braves' keeper saved it.
UNC Pembroke added an insurance goal at the 88:23 mark for a 3-0 score.
For the match, Buchanan notched two of the team's three shots while Payne added the other.
The Pacers return to action Thursday when they host Young Harris at 5 p.m.
