HICKORY, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 99-46 contest to No. 21 Carson-Newman Sunday afternoon in the final game of the PBC-SAC Challenge.
The Pacers are now 0-2 on the season while the Eagles improve to 1-1.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Jentri Worley's team-high 15 points. She also added three assists and a pair of rebounds.
Delaney Trushel connected for nine points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and a block.
Allycia Harris contributed six points, three rebounds and a block.
Emily Trushel netted five points while
Ireona Brooks,
Grace Crawford and
Madison Williams each chipped in three points. Williams added three rebounds and three assists while
Chidinma Okafor tallied two points, four boards and a pair of blocks.
Worley found
Emily Trushel for a jumper, giving the team a 2-0 lead. Down 7-2, Worley found
Emily Trushel again for a three-ball. Moments later, Worley connected with
Delaney Trushel for another shot from downtown, giving the designated home team an 8-7 advantage.
A 12-0 run by the Eagles gave the visitors a 19-8 edge. Trailing 27-15,
Delaney Trushel found Okafor for a lay-up with 1:31 to go in the first quarter. Williams found Worley for a three-point bucket with 20 ticks on the clock, cutting the deficit to 27-20 heading into the second quarter.
Down 29-21, Worley hit a free throw before converting a lay-up to make it a 29-24 game with 7:49 to go before halftime. C-N had a mini-run before Worley pulled the Pacers within 11 on an old-fashioned three-point play at the 3:23 mark. The Eagles hit a three-point shot to close out the scoring at the half, making it a 45-29 game.
Carson-Newman outscored the Pacers 25-8 in the third quarter en route to the victory.
For the game, Miller's team hit 17-of-56 from the floor (30.4 percent), including seven-of-20 from downtown (35.0 percent). The team distributed 10 assist on 17 field goals.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they play at Emmanuel (0-2) at 5:30 p.m.
