AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 2-1 contest at Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-9 on the year and 0-7 against conference teams.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the second half, head coach
Ike Ofoje's team earned its first corner kick four minutes into the final period.
For the next 10 minutes, the Hurricanes could muster just one shot while the Pacers were not able to get a shot off. However, that changed at the 63:06 mark when newcomer
Wynston Johnson found the back of the net.
Just over two minutes later, Georgia Southwestern managed to regain the lead for a 2-1 advantage.
USC Aiken garnered a corner kick at the 67:15 mark, but the squad was unable to connect off the set piece.
Maik Spiekermann launched a shot in the 82
nd minute, but he could not find the back of the net.
Pablo Corcuera nearly tied the match a moment later, but his attempt missed.
Ofoje's squad garnered back-to-back corner kicks, but the team could not register a shot attempt at that point. However, with less than a minute remaining,
Lucas Pegorer launched a shot, but he was unable to net the equalizer.
For the match,
Joey Valenti played all 90 minutes in goal. He recorded a save but took the loss.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Lander at 7 p.m.
