NEWBERRY, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 2-0 contest at Newberry Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 3-9-1 on the year while the Wolves improve to 6-9.
After two shots by the home squad missed the frame, head coach
Tina Murphy's team blasted an attempt off the boot of
Erika Bateman at the 6:07 mark. However, the Wolves' keeper managed to save the shot.
Lauren Sigmon narrowly missed an attempt at the 10:19 mark. Just over a minute later, Newbery took a 1-0 lead.
Murphy's team quickly tried to even the score.
Alyssa Broad blasted a shot at the 15:30 mark. After a corner kick,
Baylea Payne's shot from the top of the box missed as well.
The Wolves tacked on an insurance goal in the 20
th minute for the 2-0 edge.
Broad tried to pull the visitors within one, but her shot missed to the right just a few moments before halftime.
Annabeth Trotter took a shot that missed 1:03 into the second half. Sigmon followed her up with an attempt in the 57
th minute.
Mackenzie Cochrane blasted a shot from the top of the box at the 70:02 mark, but it missed the frame.
USC Aiken continued to push forward as Bateman and
Raegan Buchanan each had shots in the final 12 minutes of play.
For the match, the Pacers had 10 shots, including one on goal.
Mary Cecil played all 90 minutes between the pipes, stopping one shot.
USC Aiken had a pair of corner kicks in the contest. Bateman and Broad led the visitors with a pair of shots apiece.
