YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 match at Young Harris Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 3-8-1 on the year, including 2-5-1 against conference foes. The Mountain Lions improve to 5-7 overall and 2-6 against PBC competition.
Alyssa Broad rocketed the first shot of the match for the visitors, coming in the 21
st minute of play. It sailed just left of the frame.
Baylea Payne's attempt in the 31
st minute was saved by the keeper.
Mary Cecil registered her second save of the contest a few minutes later as both teams remained scoreless in the first half.
The Mountain Lions recorded a handful of shots in the opening moments of the second period. Two of the attempts were on frame and Cecil promptly snagged saves on both shots.
In the 61
st minute, YHC broke through for what turned out to be the lone goal of the match.

Tina Murphy's team pushed forward as
Maria Rivera and
Tashiana Kwatowski each hammered shots on frame within a minute of each other. However, both were stopped by the keeper.
Cecil and the defense did their part to continue turning away YHC as Cecil had two more saves in the final 10 minutes of play. USC Aiken was unable to place another shot during the final moments of the match.
For the contest, USC Aiken had six shots, including three on frame. Murphy's team had a pair of corner kicks. Cecil played all 90 minutes and registered seven saves.
