AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday, picking up a win over Lincoln Memorial before dropping a match to Carson-Newman.
The Pacers are now 15-4 on the season.
In the opener against Lincoln Memorial, head coach
Glenn Cox's team won 25-15, 25-16 and 25-18.
Alie Smith led everyone with a 13-kill, 10-dig performance. She chipped in a pair of blocks and an ace.
Emily Lammers amassed nine kills while
Sadie McKay chipped in seven kills.
Kayla Duggan had four kills while
Anita Cookey-Gam and
Alisha Pitt each tallied three.
Caroline Foster dished out 15 assists while
Sophie Meredith added 13. Defensively,
Kari Mercer recorded her 1,000
th career dig in the first set en route to a 25-dig performance.
At the net, Pitt had three blocks while Duggan posted two. McKay served up four aces and Meredith sliced the defense with three service winners.
In the nightcap against the Eagles, Smith shared match-high honors with 22 kills. She added 18 digs for another double-double. Additionally, Smith served up a career-high seven aces. Pitt hit .458 while slamming down 13 kills. McKay added 11 kills while Cookey-Gam had seven.
Foster distributed 32 assists to go along with seven digs while Meredith accounted for 17 assists, three digs and a pair of kills.
Defensively, Mercer led everyone with 33 digs. At the net, Pitt blocked three attempts.
During the day, Smith soared into first place on the PBC career list during the 25-point rally scoring era for career kills. She now has 1,561.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow for a pair of matches. The squad hosts Mars Hill at 1 p.m., before rounding out the PBC-SAC Crossover against Lenoir-Rhyne at 5 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
