Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

USC Aiken Falls To Flagler, 1-0

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Flagler Wednesday afternoon in a league match-up.

The Pacers fall to 1-12 overall and 0-9 in league play. The Saints improve to 7-6 on the year, including a 5-4 ledger against conference foes.

In similar fashion to the first meeting, the Saints took several shots in the early going. However, head coach Ike Ofoje's team did not let the flurry of attempts become shots on goal.

The Pacers' defense stymied the home squad. It was not until the 33:04 mark when Joey Valenti saw his first shot on goal, which he quickly saved. Four minutes later, he turned away another attempt by the Saints.

At the 39:59 mark, Davide Panucci blasted a shot on target for USC Aiken, but it was saved. Just seconds before the conclusion of the opening period, Daniel Ailemen's attempt was snuffed out by the keeper, allowing the contest to remain scoreless heading into the second stanza.

In the 50th minute, USC Aiken was whistled for a foul in the box. The shot was quickly converted on a penalty kick for the lone score of the match.

USC Aiken continued to push forward offensively, but the Pacers were unable to find the back of the net.

In all, the Pacers had nine second-half shots, including one from Jaymee Kambel in the waning moments of the match, but none would find the back of the net.

Valenti played all 90 minutes in goal, stopping six shots. Ailemen had a pair of shots on goal while Panucci had another.

Ofoje's squad registered 11 shots in the contest. The team also earned a pair of corner kicks.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Young Harris at 4 p.m. Live stats will be available at PacerSports.com.
