AMERIUCS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 3-6-1 on the year and 2-3-1 in league play.
Head coach
Tina Murphy's team was in a scoreless battle after the first half. Georgia Southwestern broke through with a goal at the 69:41 mark for a 1-0 edge.
Despite trailing, USC Aiken quickly rebounded with rookie
Mackenzie Cochrane blasting home a goal less than two minutes later (71:11) for the equalizer. From close to 30 yards out, Cochrane took a shot that deflected off a defender before getting past the keeper just inside the left post, knotting it at 1-1.
The squads would continue to play the rest of regulation without another score, sending the contest into overtime.
The defenses of both teams were strong in the extra period, forcing a second overtime frame. It was not until the second overtime that the Hurricanes managed to get another shot off. That attempt was stopped by
Mary Cecil, who played all 110 minutes between the pipes. She registered four saves in the match.
For the match, GSW tallied nine shots compared to seven by the Pacers. Each team recorded nine corner kicks in the contest.
The 1-1 score marked the third consecutive tie in the series. USC Aiken's record at GSW improved to 6-1-3 and the squad is 7-0-3 in the last 10 contest in the series.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Flagler at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PcerSports.com.
