Pacers Combine For One-Hitter In Win Over Shepherd

AIKEN, S.C. - Lindsey Robinson Jr. hurled six innings of no-hit ball while the University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team combined for a one-hit shutout in the 13-0 win over Shepherd Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 4-0 on the season.

Robinson Jr. registered eight strikeouts and threw 88 pitches while Will Varnadore worked the seventh and eighth frames without giving up a hit.

Joel Haney came in to close the ninth for USC Aiken. On an 0-2 count, the leadoff batter recorded a single, breaking up the no-hit bid. Haney struck out the next two batters before forcing a groundout to end the game.

For the contest, Varnadore struck out three while Haney had two strikeouts.

Head coach Kenny Thomas' team jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back thanks to Robinson Jr.'s dominating pitching performance.

Luke Leisenring walked, went to second on a passed ball and jogged to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a Scott Huntley single to right field. With the bags full, Jeff Cyr was hit by a pitch, plating Blake Jenkins. Trey Poleweski's sacrifice fly and Sean McQuillan's single scored Huntley and Alex Mills, respectively. Cyr stole home and Eric McGirt's groundout plated McQuillan for the 6-0 edge.

Jenkins pushed the margin to 7-0 when Cyr reached on a fielder's choice in the third.

Jackson Hannon's two-RBI single in the sixth made it 9-0. Leisenring drove in McQuillan moments later before McGirt scored for an 11-0 advantage.

The offense was not done as Marcus Mastellone singled in David Jacobs in the eighth. Jose Hernandez scored on a double play for the final tally.

At the plate, McQuillan had a pair of hits, drove in one and scored twice. Hannon drove in a pair of runners. Jenkins scored twice while Cyr drove in two and scored twice in the victory.
