AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a hard-fought 2-1 game Friday evening at Georgia Southwestern.
The Pacers are now 8-5 on the season and 2-5 in league play.
Head coach
Kenny Thomas' team was led by
Jeff Cyr and
Luke Leisenring. Each posted a pair of hits in the contest, including a double apiece.
Jackson Hannon drove in the team's lone run while
Jacob Boyd scored the run.
USC Aiken had a pair of runners on base in the second, but the squad was unable to push across a run. Leisenring singled to right field, but was erased on a fielder's choice from
Scott Huntley. Boyd singled, putting two on, but a fly ball ended the stanza.
The Pacers trailed 2-0 after the fourth inning, but
William Ard came in for starter
Lindsey Robinson Jr., and shut the door on the home squad for the next two frames. Then, in the seventh, the visitors plated a run to cut the deficit to 2-1.
In the seventh, Boyd reached on an error. With one away, Cyr singled to push Boyd to second base. With two away, Hannon blasted a base hit down the right field line and Boyd hustled around third en route to touching home plate for the score.
USC Aiken was unable to push across the tying run in the final two innings.
For the game,
Lindsey Robinson Jr., went four frames and had four strikeouts. Ard worked 3.1 innings without giving up a run.
Austin Hohm tossed the final two-thirds of an inning, picking up one strikeout.
