TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team split a pair of games at North Greenville, winning 6-4 before falling 11-2.
The Pacers are now 10-4 on the season.
Head coach
Jerry Snyder's team was led by Kateyln Powell's three-hit performance in the opener while
Brooke Moore and
Courtney Strauss each plated two RBI.
In game one, the Crusaders led 4-0 and pushed across a run in the fourth. Strauss singled to right field,
Shircoria Bosket crossed home plate. The Pacers tied the game in the fifth. Moore ripped a double to the gap, scoring
Samantha Aring and
Katelyn Powell. Aring reached on an error before Powell rocketed a double to right center field. With Moore on third, Strauss ripped a single through the left side, allowing Moore to trot home.
In the eight, the international tiebreaker rule put Strauss on second base. She moved to third on a groundout by
Sarah Sams.
Holly Daum reached on a sacrifice bunt and moved to second on the throw as Strauss crossed home. Two batters later, Powell singled in Daum for the 6-4 lead.
Caroline Cockrell went the distance, allowing three earned runs on nine hits. She struck out six while picking up the victory.
USC Aiken fell behind 7-0 in game two through five innings, but Snyder's squad plated two runs in the sixth frame.
Savannah Drozda came in as a pinch hitter and singled before moving to second on a single from Strauss. With two down,
Maci Hutto ripped a single up the middle, plating both Pacers.
The Crusaders plated four runs in the bottom of the inning to invoke the run rule.
