PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a pair of games at UNC Pembroke Saturday by scores of 9-2 and 5-4.
The Pacers are now 8-3 on the season and 2-3 in the PBC.
In game one, the Braves took a 9-0 lead after the fifth inning, but USC Aiken struck in the seventh. With one down,
Alex Mills ripped a double down the right field line. Two batters later,
Jeff Cyr doubled him home.
The Pacers added their second run in the eighth stanza.
Jackson Hannon registered a four-ball walk to lead things off. With one down,
Luke Leisenring singled through the right side, pushing Hannon to third. With two away,
Leo Horacio singled to the shortstop, allowing Hannon to race home.
For the game, Leisenring and Mills each went three-for-four at the plate. Mills had a pair of doubles while Lesienring had one.
In game two,
Sean McQuillan opened the game with a walk. After moving to second, Leisenring doubled him home. Four pitches later, Mills smashed a 1-2 offering over the left field wall for a 3-0 edge.
The Braves took the lead after scoring a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth, but head coach
Kenny Thomas' team knotted the contest in the seventh.
Marcus Mastellone drew a base on balls. After McQuillan was hit by a pitch to put two on,
Eric McGirt's base knock up the middle tied the game at 4-4.
The game would stay deadlocked until the 13
th inning when the Braves loaded the bases and secured a two-out single for the game-winning run.
On the mound,
Zach Fordham recorded eight strikeouts to start the game.
Henry Cartrett had one strikeout while
Austin Hohm recorded three strikeouts over three frames.
William Ard took the loss, but struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings.
