Throughout the 2019 season, the USC Aiken Athletic Communications office will provide weekly notes, giving all of Pacer Nation an in-depth look at the team.
Durden Hits Another One
In the contest at Wingate last week, senior
Conner Durden gave the Pacers an early 1-0 lead when he launched a solo round-tripper in the second inning. It marked his eighth long ball of the season.
Mills & Multiples
In the series-opening win over Augusta,
Alex Mills posted a pair of hits in four at bats for the home squad. He also scored the game-tying run in the fifth. On Saturday, Mills belted out one hit but drove in a pair of runs in the 11-3 win. On Sunday, Mills pounded out two more hits, including a round-tripper, in the series finale.
Complete Domination
Mitch Spence had an outstanding game last Friday. He went the distance, striking out a career-high 16, in the 2-1 win over Augusta. Spence threw 118 pitches and walked just one batter, allowed one earned run and gave up only three singles in the contest. Spence did not allow a hit the final 4.1 innings.
Glimpse Of Willie Mays
Newcomer
Trey Polewski reached on an error in the fifth inning, allowing two runs to come around and score (in what turned out to be the game-winning run). With two on in the top of the ninth, the infield was playing in and a pop fly destined for shallow left field seemed destined to fall for a base knock. However, Polewski turned and raced toward the ball with his back to home plate. He managed to snag the over-the-shoulder catch running toward left field for the final out and securing the 2-1 win.
