USC Aiken Men's Basketball Notes - Week 17

Throughout the 2018-19 season, the USC Aiken Athletic Communications office will provide weekly notes, giving all of Pacer Nation an in-depth look at the team.

NCAA Southeast Region Tournament Central

All-Conference

After finishing second in the PBC, head coach Mark Vanderslice's team had a pair of first-team all-conference honorees. Xzavier Barmore and Ty'lik Evans each garnered first-team accolades. It's the second consecutive season the squad had at least one student-athlete on the first team.

All-Tournament Team

The Pacers reached the PBC Championship game for the first time since 2014. With a solid run that included wins over Lander and Francis Marion, Xzavier Barmore and Ty'lik Evans each earned all-tournament team honors.

One Smart Player

Junior Kyle Tackeberry has been a solid contributor for USC Aiken over the course of this season. Tackeberry may be overlooked on the court due to the impressiveness of some of his teammates, but he was honored by the PBC as the Elite 15 award winner. The honor goes to the student-athlete at the PBC Tournament with the highest GPA.

Records Being Broken

During the PBC Tournament, a pair of records were broken by Pacers. In the win over Lander in the PBC Quarterfinal game, Xzavier Barmore dished out not only a school record, but also a PBC Tournament all-time record of 17 assists. In the PBC Championship game, Ty'lik Evans registered his 123rd steal of the year, becoming the single-season record holder in PBC history.

Under The Radar

Junior Faison Brock may be under the radar for awards and honors, but he has put together an outstanding season thus far. He is third on the team in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game. His 7.1 rebounds a contest lead the way. Brock is also connecting on 50.9 percent of his shots from the floor.

Back To The Regional

For the first time since the 2013-14 season, the USC Aiken men's basketball has earned a berth in the NCAA Southeast Regional. The Pacers are the No. 3 seed after wrapping up the PBC Tournament with a 26-5 ledger. The team was second in the PBC regular season and advanced to the PBC Championship game. The last time the team played in the regional, the squad advanced to the school's first-ever Final Four.
