AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team played Georgia Southwestern to a scoreless draw Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 3-11-1 overall and 3-6-1 in league play. The Hurricanes are 3-11-2 on the year and 0-8-1 against conference foes.
After missing a pair of shots wide in the early going, head coach
Hilary George's team registered back-to-back corner kicks.
Erika Bateman accounted for a shot off the set piece, but her attempt also missed the frame.
With strong defensively play by the Pacers, the teams went into the break scoreless.
Marianne Ross rocketed a shot in the 67
th minute, but it was stopped by the GSW keeper.
Lauren Sigmon's shot was also saved in the 77
th minute of action.
Marissa Lee had an attempt in the 86
th minute, but it was saved.
Madi Banks made several solid plays between the pipes – and continued to do so in the 88
th minute when she saved a shot by the visitors, helping keep the score at 0-0 to force overtime.
The Hurricanes accounted for a pair of shots that missed wide in the first overtime. USC Aiken countered at the 99:09 mark as
Georgia Fisher blasted a shot. However, Hannah Morrone was up for the challenge as the teams remained at a 0-0 draw, forcing a second overtime.
For the match,
Madi Banks played all 110 minutes in goal, securing eight saves.
George's team had an outstanding chance in the waning seconds. After a ball was played into the box,
Willa Olson secured the ball 12 yards out. She turned and fired to the left side of the goal, but the ball dribbled inches wide as the contest ended in a tie.
