ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 4-2 contest at Flagler Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 3-8 on the year and 2-2 in league play. The Saints stand at 2-10-01 overall and 1-3 against conference foes.
David Box's attempt in the sixth minute nearly got USC Aiken on the board, but a brilliant save kept the contest scoreless.
Chukwudi Apugo and
Duncan Mihoulides each registered shots on goal, but the Saints managed to take a 1-0 lead in the 32
nd minute of action.
Trailing 2-0 early in the second period, Box blasted a shot on goal that was slowed down by the keeper. Apugo corralled the ball and hammered home the goal, making it 2-1. Box earned the assist on the play.
Flagler responded with a goal at the 71:51 mark, but head coach
Ike Ofoje's team continued applying pressure. Box fired a cross to Apugo, who promptly found the back of the net to make it 3-2.
Flagler managed to tack on an insurance goal in the 88
th minute for the 4-2 win.
For the match Apugo registered two goals while Box and Pineda had one assist apiece.
Kenneth Kalek got the starting nod in goal. He notched three saves.
Brendan Gribek came in for the final 38:46 and had one stop.
The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they play at Barton. The match is slated to start at 5 p.m.
