Chandler Nets 16 In Loss At UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C.Kyrie' Chandler scored a game-high 16 points, but the University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 58-47 decision at UNC Pembroke Wednesday.

The Pacers are now 9-8 overall and 5-6 in the PBC. The Braves are 6-10 overall and 5-5 against league foes.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Chandler's 16 points. All four of her field goals came from the three-point stripe. Grace Crawford tallied 10 points and a pair of assists while Kwajelin Farrar totaled 10 points and nine rebounds.

Trailing 10-5, Crawford buried a three-point shot with 5:49 to play in the opening stanza off a pass from Alex Canady. After forcing back-to-back turnovers, Miller's team took an 11-10 lead when Crawford found Chandler for a long-distance shot at the 4:34 mark. However, the Braves would maintain a 14-11 edge heading into the second quarter.

USC Aiken regained the lead at 16-14 after a basket from Farrar and a three-pointer from Phenicia Howard, but UNC Pembroke countered with a three-point shot of its own for a 17-16 advantage heading into the media time-out with 4:15 to play in the half. The Braves managed to take a 29-22 lead into the third stanza.

An 8-2 run by the Pacers trimmed the deficit to 34-30 at the media timeout in the third quarter. Trailing 32-22, Sade Johnson hit a jumper. After a bucket by the home squad, Farrar made a foul shot at the 8:35 mark. Crawford connected on a lay-up before Chandler canned another shot from distance, making it 34-30. USC Aiken pulled within one at 41-40 when Farrar hit a jumper with 1:07 to go in the quarter, but the Braves rattled off seven straight for a 48-40 advantage going into the fourth period.

The Pacers were unable to get any closer the rest of the way.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 16-of-52 from the floor (30.8 percent), including seven-of-24 from downtown (29.2 percent). Miller's team held a 7-4 advantage in fast break points. The squad tallied 10 assists on the 16 field goals.
