AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Carson-Newman Thursday evening in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 6-1 on the year while the Eagles fall to 3-1.
Alie Smith led the way with a match-high 18 kills. She added 10 digs for a double-double.
Christine Carroll slammed home 10 kills while adding five digs and a pair of blocks.
Kayla Duggan tallied eight kills while
Ali Kirk and
Brittani Vialdores each contributed six digs.
Alli Bell registered a double-double with a team-high 20 assists to go along with 14 digs.
Ali Kirk dished out 16 assists.
Rebecca Martinez shattered the school record for digs in a three-set match with 39. She narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine assists.

Glenn Cox's team jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first frame off a block from Spurlin and Vialdores. The Eagles pulled within five at 22-17 before an error pushed the margin to six at 23-17. Kirk and Smith ended the set with back-to-back kills.

Glenn Cox's team trailed 17-15 in the second stanza, but Carroll hammered home back-to-back kills, evening the contest. Trailing 23-21, Spurlin pulled the home team within one at 23-22. Back-to-back miscues by the visitors gave USC Aiken a 24-23 lead. Tied at 25, a service error gave the Pacers the lead for good. Smith finished the set with a thunderous kill.
Leading 19-18 in the third frame, Carroll and Smith combined for kills, giving the home team a three-point cushion. With the score 23-20, Smith found the court off a pass from Kirk. Two plays later, Bell found Smith for the final point in the match.
