AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Lander Tuesday evening in a league match-up.
The Pacers are now 11-2 on the year and 2-0 in league play. The Bearcats fall to 13-3 overall and 1-1 against conference competition.
Christine Carroll had a monster contest, registering 14 kills while hitting .433.
Alie Smith registered 11 kills and 11 digs for a double-double.
Brittani Vialdores accounted for 11 kills and hit .409 in the sweep.
Kayla Duggan registered eight kills while hitting .412. Collectively, the squad hit .271.
Ali Kirk dished out a team-best 24 assists while picking up a couple of kills.
Alli Bell dished out 16 assists while registering five digs and a kill.
Defensively,
Rebecca Martinez accounted for a match-high 27 digs while surpassing the 1,500-dig plateau for her career.
Vannah Strozier reached double figures with 13 digs.
At the net, Carroll and Spurlin each had a solo block and assisted on a block together.
Trailing 2-1 in the first set, Carroll found the court, knotting things up. That sparked a 5-0 run for a 6-2 advantage. After a point by the visitors, Carroll and Smith followed it up with back-to-back kills.
Tied at 9-9, Smith found the court, enabling the Pacers to go on a 6-0 spurt for a 15-9 edge. Although Lander pulled within two, Duggan and Carroll posted the final two points in the 25-21 win.
Leading 5-3 in the second set, Carroll slammed home a kill, allowing USC Aiken to start a 7-0 run. During the spurt, Smith added a kill but the rest came on miscues by the visitors. Vialdores made it a 14-4 contest and the team never looked back in the 25-15 victory.

Glenn Cox's team trailed 9-4 in the third set, but Vialdores registered back-to-back kills and Bell added one to make it 9-7. Down 12-7, Vialdores stopped the run with a kill. Smith added an ace. Two miscues by Lander and a kill from Duggan knotted the score at 12-12.
The teams went back-and-forth for much of the set, but the Bearcats took a 22-21 lead. However, Vialdores answered with a kill. Carroll stuffed an attempt to make it 23-22. After a time-out, the visitors had back-to-back errors, giving USC Aiken the 25-22 win.
