USC Aiken Drops PBC Opener

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-0 contest to No. 4 Young Harris Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 2-3 on the year while the Mountain Lions are 7-0.

Head coach Ike Ofoje's team fought hard from the beginning, staving off a corner in the first five minutes and holding Young Harris to just a single shot in the first 15 minutes. After two more attempts though, the Mountain Lions managed to grab a goal in the 19th minute.

For the rest of the first half, the teams were neck and neck. The Pacers kept even with Young Harris on shots and only allowed the Mountain Lions one more corner kick.

With the start of the second half, the USC Aiken came out strong, out-shooting the Mountain Lions 3-1. The Pacers continued to push and had control until they hit a snag in the 72nd minute.

After that, Young Harris gained the final goal of the contest in the 80th minute. While the Pacers bounced back strong and the defense held, they were unable to get on the board over the final 10 minutes of competition.

For the match, USC Aiken was out-shot 17-7, including 13-4 on goal.

Alejandro Chavarria manned the registered 11 save in the loss while playing the entire 90 minutes between the pipes.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday, Sept. 26 when they host Erskine at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
