BELMONT, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory at Belmont Abbey Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 2-2 on the season while the Crusaders fall to 1-4.
Sophomore
Andre Salviano put head coach
Ike Ofoje's team on the board with just 5:04 on the clock in the first half.
After a previous attempt at a goal by
Sammy Viada off a corner kick by
Jordan Misiri, Salviano managed to find the back of the net just a couple minutes later with the help of
Neil Hamilton.
USC Aiken nearly pushed the margin to 2-0, but Misiri's attempt was stopped short by the Crusader goalie in the 22nd minute. The Pacers primarily kept possession of the ball for the rest of the half, taking several more shots on goal, but being thwarted each time.
Alejandro Chavarria was up for the challenge in the 39th minute when he denied the solo shot on goal for the half by the home squad, leaving the Crusaders down going into half-time.
In the 76th minute, USC Aiken snagged a second goal on a solo run by Ricard Saintil, setting the score to 2-0 in favor of the Pacers.
Belmont Abbey picked up three corner kicks from the 81st to the 84th minute, but the Pacer defense held strong. They also managed to keep the Crusaders to only one shot.
For the match, Misiri tallied seven shots, four of which were on goal. Salviano had four shots and a goal. Viada,
Chukwudi Apugo and
Kyllian Martin had two attempts each while
David Box and Saintil each had an attempt. Saintil also picked up a goal.
Between the pipes, Chavarria was solid. He stopped the solo shot on goal while playing all 90 minutes for the shutout.
The Pacers return to action Saturday afternoon when they play at Young Harris at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
