AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team registered a 3-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan in the season opener Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-0 on the year while the Warriors fall to 0-2.

Glenn Cox's team was led by junior standout
Christine Carroll's career-high 16 kills. She hit .696 on the day. Freshman
Andrea Bernal garnered 10 kills while hitting .381 in her career opener.
Alie Smith added nine kills in the contest.
Ali Kirk and
Alli Bell each had double-double efforts. Kirk accounted for a match-high 20 assists and 14 digs while Bell garnered 17 assists and 10 digs. Defensively, the squad tallied 85 digs, which is the third most in a three-set match in school history.
Rebecca Martinez led the way with 32 digs, which was the second most in a three-set match in school history. Her effort propelled her into the top 10 for a career in school history as well.
In addition to Kirk and Bell, Smith chipped in 16 digs in the victory.
In the opening frame, it was a back-and-forth affair until Bernal's kill pushed it to 20-16, forcing a time-out. After the break, freshman
Vannah Strozier served up an ace for a five-point edge. The Warriors added a point, but
Logan McMullin had a kill and an attack error by the visitors closed the set at 25-18.
Leading 13-12 in the second stanza, Smith took a pass from Bell and found the court. Bernal added a kill prior to back-to-back errors by the Warriors. Smith's time-out made it 18-12. The squad cruised to a 25-15 victory, ending the frame on a 4-0 run. Bernal closed the set with a thunderous kill.
In the third stanza, Cox's group made it 21-18 on a kill from Smith. Carroll's right arm pushed it to 23-20. Kirk served up an ace before Carroll swatted an attempt for the match-winning point.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow for a pair of matches. The Pacers host Barry at 1 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend with Johnson C. Smith at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
