AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team split a pair of matches, wrapping up the season-opening tournament. After losing to Barry, the team swept Johnson C. Smith.
The Pacers are now 2-1 on the season.
In the loss to Barry,
Christine Carroll registered a team-best 13 kills.
Kelsey Spurlin contributed five markers while
Logan McMullin chipped in four.
Alli Bell notched her second consecutive double-double with 15 assists and 12 digs.
Ali Kirk and
Rebecca Martinez tallied eight and seven assists, respectively.
Rebecca Martinez poured in a match-high 29 digs.
Vannah Strozier chipped in 10 in the loss.
In the nightcap, Carroll was once again outstanding, slamming home 12 kills while posting a .688 attack percentage. It marks the fifth-best attack percentage in a three-set match in school history – and Carroll's second mark in the top 10 of the season.
Kayla Duggan added seven kills to go along with a pair of aces while
Okwunne Ogbogu notched six in the victory.
Bell led everyone with 19 assists while Kirk contributed 15.
Martinez garnered 21 digs to lead the defense.
The Pacers return to action Friday when they take on Albany State at 3 p.m., and Valdosta State at 8 p.m., at the Valdosta State Tournament. All times are EST.
