MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games at Georgia College Friday by scores of 9-1 and 9-2.
The Pacers are now 10-28 on the season while the Bobcats improve to 26-10.
In the opener, head coach
Jerry Snyder's team fell behind 1-0 in the second inning, but the squad battled back.
USC Aiken had a runner on second base in the first and second while
Courtney Strauss picked up her second hit of the day in the third inning. However, the Pacers were held scoreless through three frames.
In the fourth,
Sydney Kate Murphy walked and was lifted for pinch runner
Leah Boghosian, who was erased on a fielder's choice from
Katelyn Powell. Powell quickly swiped her second base of the day before racing home on a single from
Caroline Cockrell, knotting the contest at 1-1.
Trailing 3-1 in the fifth,
Brielle Jungblut walked and raced to second on a wild pitch. Back-to-back line drive outs ended the frame. The Bobcats managed to plate five in the bottom of the fifth for an 8-1 edge.
Murphy ripped a two-out single to right center in the sixth and scampered to third on Powell's infield hit. However, a fly ball ended the inning. GC plated a run in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game.
For the game, Powell and Strauss had two hits apiece. Cockrell and Murphy had one hit each while Powell crossed home.
In the nightcap, the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first, but USC Aiken countered in the second stanza. Powell led off with a double to left center field and was able to take her time coming home when
Chandler Terrapin blasted a two-run homer down the left field line.
The home squad battled back, scoring three in the fourth and fifth innings and two in the sixth for a 9-2 advantage.
For the game, Powell and Terrapin registered two hits apiece. Dorgan,
Kristan Lowery,
Hannah Price,
Jessica Stanley and Strauss had one hit apiece.
