Shoaf Sends Pacers To Win Over Cobras

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team split a pair of games against Coker, winning the nightcap 7-6.

The Pacers are now 7-13 on the season while the Cobras fall to 18-4.

After dropping the opening game 16-1, with the lone run coming from a hit by Chandler Terrapin, head coach Jerry Snyder's team bounced back in the second game.

The Cobras jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but USC Aiken struck for three runs in the bottom of the stanza. With one down, Leah Boghosian singled and moved to second on an error. Terrapin ripped a double to left field, scoring Boghosian. Hannah Price doubled home Terrapin for a 2-1 edge.

With runners on second and third, Lilly Shoaf reached on an error that scored Price for the 3-1 margin.

Trailing 4-3 in the second, Kristan Lowery singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brielle Jungblut. Lowery raced home on a single to right field by Boghosian, knotting the score at 4-4.

USC Aiken entered the fourth trailing 5-4, but the squad plated a pair of runs. With one away, Jungblut singled to third base and swiped second. Boghosian singled home Jungblut, tying the game at 5-5. A single by Terrapin pushed Boghosian to third and Price drove in Boghosian for the 6-5 advantage.

With one away in the seventh, the Cobras tied the game at 6-6 on a round-tripper. The visitors threatened to break the tie in the eighth, but Janee McCarthy snagged a line drive and touched second base for the inning-ending double play.

Shoaf launched her first career round-tripper with one away in the bottom of the eighth, sending an 0-2 pitch over the left field fence for the game-winner.

For the game, Boghosian and Courtney Strauss had three hits apiece. Boghosian drove in two as did Price.

Price went the distance, tossing 150 pitches en route to the complete-game win. She struck out six batters and gave up just two earned runs in the victory.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they face Wingate at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
