PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a hard-fought 6-5 game at UNC Pembroke Thursday evening.

The Pacers are now 20-11 overall and 11-5 in PBC play.

Head coach Kenny Thomas' team trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but the visitors quickly knotted the contest.

In the top of the second, Brian Parreira garnered a lead-off walk. With one down, Philip Watcher pushed him to third on a single to right field. Sean McQuillan's groundout allowed Parreira to race home, evening the score at 1-1.

The Braves regained the lead in the fourth with a run, but USC Aiken posted a two-run sixth for a 3-2 edge. Jose Bonilla ripped a 1-1 offering down the right field line for a triple. He was able to trot home two pitches later as Daulton Weeks blasted a pitch high over the center field wall for the one-run margin.

UNC Pembroke scored two runs in the bottom of the frame for the 4-3 lead.

After a scoreless seventh, Weeks launched his second homer of the day – another shot to center field. It was a two-run shot as Bonilla had reached on a single to second base. The round-tripper made it 5-4 in favor of the Pacers.

For the game, Bonilla and Weeks had three hits apiece. Weeks registered two homers and four RBI. He also added a double. Bonilla garnered a triple. Watcher, McQuillan and Chandler Rogers all had base hits. McQuillan tallied one RBI in the loss.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow for the second game of the series. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
