PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost an 8-3 decision at UNC Pembroke Friday evening in a league contest.
The Pacers are now 20-12 overall and 11-6 in league action.
Head coach
Kenny Thomas' team picked up its first base knock of the game in the third frame, but a double play erased the runner.
Daulton Weeks singled in the fourth, but a fielder's choice ended the stanza.
The Braves scored four runs in the first and one in the second for a 5-0 lead. The home team added a run in the sixth, but Thomas' squad tried to battle back.
In the seventh,
Nile Goings drew a one-out walk.
Brian Parreira ripped a single to right field, allowing Goings to hustle to third. With two down,
Brady O'Neil walked to load the bases. However, a strikeout ended the threat.
USC Aiken got things going in the eighth.
Chandler Rogers led off the frame with a single. He moved to second when
Jose Bonilla drew a walk. With one down, Weeks singled home Rogers.
Two batters later, Parreira's single hit the field umpire, loading the bases.
Joey Smithers ripped a single to the shortstop, plating Bonilla. Weeks scored when there was a throwing error on the play, making the score 8-3. However, that was as close as the team could get.
For the game, Parreira and Weeks had two hits apiece. Smithers drove in a run.
