USC Aiken Suffers Loss To UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost an 8-3 decision at UNC Pembroke Friday evening in a league contest.

The Pacers are now 20-12 overall and 11-6 in league action.

Head coach Kenny Thomas' team picked up its first base knock of the game in the third frame, but a double play erased the runner. Daulton Weeks singled in the fourth, but a fielder's choice ended the stanza.

The Braves scored four runs in the first and one in the second for a 5-0 lead. The home team added a run in the sixth, but Thomas' squad tried to battle back.

In the seventh, Nile Goings drew a one-out walk. Brian Parreira ripped a single to right field, allowing Goings to hustle to third. With two down, Brady O'Neil walked to load the bases. However, a strikeout ended the threat.

USC Aiken got things going in the eighth. Chandler Rogers led off the frame with a single. He moved to second when Jose Bonilla drew a walk. With one down, Weeks singled home Rogers.

Two batters later, Parreira's single hit the field umpire, loading the bases. Joey Smithers ripped a single to the shortstop, plating Bonilla. Weeks scored when there was a throwing error on the play, making the score 8-3. However, that was as close as the team could get.

For the game, Parreira and Weeks had two hits apiece. Smithers drove in a run.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow for the final game of the series beginning at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
