USC Aiken Drops Mid-Week Contest

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a mid-week contest to No. 2/10 North Greenville, 12-4.

The Pacers are now 20-10 on the season.

Head coach Kenny Thomas' team fell behind 4-1 after 1.5 innings, but his squad got on the board in the bottom of the second stanza.

Brian Parreira ripped a double to the gap in left center field and quickly hustled to third on a sacrifice bunt from Joey Smithers. On a 2-2 pitch, Philip Watcher slapped a single to center field, allowing Parreira to trot home, making it 4-1.

The Crusaders managed to score three runs in the third to make it 7-1. After adding two in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 10-1 advantage, USC Aiken pulled within seven by plating two runs in the bottom of the frame.

With one down, Chandler Rogers singled and moved to second on a walk to Jose Bonilla. Daulton Weeks plated Rogers with a double to straight-away center field. Conner Durden's groundout allowed Bonilla to score for a 10-3 contest.

The teams traded runs in the seventh. Down 11-3, Bonilla scored when Durden reached on a fielder's choice.

For the game, Durden drove in two while Watcher and Weeks each had one RBI.
