AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team picked up a hard-fought 5-4 win over Lander Friday evening in a key league contest.
The Pacers are now 7-5 on the season and 1-3 in league play.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team picked up two wins in doubles action for a 2-1 lead.
Olivera Veskovac and
Teresa Franco Dias garnered an 8-2 win at the top spot. Third-seeded
Kayla Calvert and
Alice Neves registered a victory by the same score.
USC Aiken pushed the score to 3-1 as
Elena Bompieri tallied a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles action. Leading 3-2, Calvert gave the home team another point with her resounding 7-6, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot.
After the visitors pulled within one at 4-3, Neves closed out the match for the home team with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they host Augusta at 1 p.m.
