USC Aiken Falls To Florida Southern

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a doubleheader to Florida Southern by scores of 8-0 and 5-0.

The Pacers are now 2-2 on the year.

In the opener, Jessica Stanley led the way with two hits for head coach Jerry Snyder's team. Lyndie Dorgan, Brielle Jungblut, Courtney Strauss and Chandler Terrapin notched a base hit apiece.

USC Aiken left a runner on base in the first and third frames – and trailed 2-0 entering the fourth. The Pacers had a chance to tie or take the lead in their at bat in the fourth frame. With one down, Terrapin singled. After a strikeout, Stanley bunted to put runners on first and second. Strauss singled to center field to load the bags. Dorgan hit what looked to be a double, but the ball glanced just foul of the line. Then, a fielder's choice ended the threat.

The Mocs managed to score six runs in the sixth to break things open. In the bottom of the stanza, USC Aiken put two runners on, but the team was unable to plate a run, ending the game early due to the mercy rule.

Snyder's team managed five hits in the nightcap. Kristan Lowery, Janee McCarthy, Kathleen St. Peter, Hannah Price and Terrapin all notched base hits.

USC Aiken had a chance to take the lead in the second inning. St. Peter stroked a hit down the left field line with one away. Two batters later, Lowery singled to right field, but the Pacers could not push a run across.

Florida Southern plated three runs in the fourth, but Snyder's team once again had a chance to get in the game in the bottom of the stanza.

Terrapin walked and moved to second on Price's single. St. Peter was hit by a pitch to load the bags. However, a fielder's choice and two strikeouts ended the threat.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they travel to Limestone for a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m. Live stats will be available at PacerSports.com.
