Pacers Drop Contest To Railsplitters

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team dropped a 6-3 contest to Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon in the second game of the season.
 
Christian Aragon got the starting nod on the mound. Through three and a third innings of work, he gave up six hits and walked one while striking out one. Aragon held the Railsplitters to just one run.
 
Aragon utilized his defense, forcing seven of the Railsplitters to fly out in the first three stanzas. He also struck out one in the bottom of the second to end the top half of the frame.
 
Head coach Kenny Thomas' team had a chance to take the lead in the third. Philip Watcher drew a base on balls that was capitalized on by Daulton Weeks with a timely home run to put two on the board.
 
The visitors plated a run in the fourth on a single to make it 2-1.
 
Lincoln Memorial obtained three more runs in the top of the fifth off of a home run that was followed up by a wild pitch on a swinging strike and a double to right center, making it 4-2.
 
The two teams battled back-and-forth for four more innings as the Pacers managed to get five more on base, but couldn't quite get them home.
 
In the top of the ninth, the Railsplitters plated two more to close out the game, making it 6-3.
 
For the game, Joey Smithers and Chandler Rodgers registered two hits apiece. Conner Durden and Weeks also earned a hit. Mitch Spence picked up the loss. He struck out nine batters and gave up a walk.
 
On the mound, Zach Lang worked 1.1 innings and gave up two runs while striking out one. William Ard tossed 0.2 innings and struck out one.
 
The Pacers return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m.
