Pacers Race Past Railsplitters

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team picked up a 10-5 win over Lincoln Memorial Sunday evening in the series finale.

The Pacers are now 2-1 on the season while the Railsplitters drop to 1-2.

Head coach Kenny Thomas' team fell behind 3-0 after the visitors scored two runs in the second and one in the fifth.

USC Aiken was held hitless through the first five frames. However, the home squad registered its first hit of the game in the sixth inning. Jose Bonilla broke up the no-hit bid with a single to left field. After he moved to second on a wild pitch, Bonilla hustled to third on a base knock by Joey Smithers.

The Pacers got on the board when Bonilla crossed home when Daulton Weeks reached on an error. Brian Parreira lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Smithers to make it 3-2. On the very next pitch, Conner Durden belted a two-run shot for a 4-3 lead.

Chandler Rogers led off the seventh with a single and scampered to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bonilla. After a walk to Weeks, Parreira ripped a double to the gap, plating two. Durden was issued a walk and Nile Goings added the team's seventh run with a double to left, scoring Parreira.

LMU plated two runs in the ninth but could get no closer.

Daniel Wiggins worked two innings of relief, picking up the victory.

For the game, Smithers led the team with two hits. He and Parreira each drove in three runs. Smithers, Weeks and Rogers all crossed home plate twice.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they host Shepherd at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
