The Pacers are now 13-10 on the season and 10-9 in league play. The Braves are 21-4 overall and 17-2 against conference competition.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was paced by
Robert Hill's career night. He registered a career-high 18 rebounds and blocked six shots in addition to adding 13 points. The 18 boards are the third most in USC Aiken's Division II history.
Markus Terry led everyone with a game-best 19 points in 31 minutes of action.
Henry Bolton III tallied 17 markers. He was perfect from the charity stripe, canning all eight attempts.
After falling behind 27-18, Hill converted an old-fashioned three-point play at the 6:15 mark. Bolton III made it a six-point contest with 5:37 to go in the first half.
Faison Brock registered a steal with 3:39 to go in the half and Terry converted the theft into a lay-up, slicing the deficit to just two, 31-29.
Austin Grimes found Terry for a lay-up at the 3:10 mark, pulling the visitors within one at 33-32.
Darius Bell knotted the contest momentarily with a charity toss at the 2:47 mark. Grimes tied the score at 35 with 1:33 on the clock before Brock hit a shot from distance, putting the Pacers up 38-35. Tied at 38-38, Terry took a pass from Grimes and cut through the lane for a two-point lead at the break.
The game was a back-and-forth affair in the early going of the second half. Bolton III canned a three-ball to make it 53-51, but the Braves countered with a three-pointer of their own to make it 54-53. Despite playing close the rest of the way, USC Aiken was unable to regain the lead the remainder of the affair.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 25-of-66 from the floor (38 percent), including seven-of-21 from downtown (33.3 percent). The squad made 17-of-22 attempts from the foul line (77 percent). The Pacers held a 32-26 edge in the paint. Thanks in part to Hill's six blocks, USC Aiken tallied 11 compared to nine by the home squad.
