AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team swept a pair of games against Belmont Abbey Saturday by scores of 8-5 and 1-0.
The Pacers are now 4-4 on the season.
In the opener,
Hannah Price led the way with three hits and two RBI.
Chandler Terrapin crossed home twice. Terrapin tossed a complete game, striking out six en route to earning the win.
Head coach
Jerry Snyder's team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. With the bases loaded,
Sydney Kate Murphy was hit by a pitch, bringing home Terrapin.
Tied at 1-1 in the sixth, USC Aiken broke the game open. Price singled and moved to third on
Kathleen St. Peter's double. Murphy was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Janee McCarthy's groundout scored Price for a 2-1 edge.
Hanna Hyder was hit by a pitch.
Kristan Lowery walked to score St. Peter. Then, Murphy scored on
Jessica Stanley's fielder's choice.
Courtney Strauss singled, plating Hyder. Then, Terrapin doubled home Stanley for a 6-1 score. Price doubled home two for an 8-1 margin and USC Aiken got out of a jam in the seventh for the 8-5 win.
Caroline Cockrell tossed a complete-game shutout in the nightcap. Strauss singled to lead things off and moved to second on
Lyndie Dorgan's sacrifice bunt. After Price singled to put runners on the corners, St. Peter's base knock brought home Strauss.
That run was more than enough for Cockrell, who earned her first shutout. She struck out six and didn't allow a walk.
