Pacers Fall To Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a hard fought 74-65 game at Georgia College Wednesday in a league contest.

The Pacers are now 6-4 overall and 3-2 in league play. The Bobcats stand at 5-5 overall and 3-1 against conference foes.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Grace Crawford's career-high 16 points. Sade Johnson narrowly missed out on a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Kwajelin Farrar added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Kyrie' Chandler tallied 12 points and a pair of assists.

In a back-and-forth first quarter, Farrar's lay-up at the 5:22 mark pushed USC Aiken into the lead at 6-5. The Bobcats reeled off seven straight points before Crawford nailed a three-point shot, pulling the squad within three at 12-9 with 2:29 to go in the frame. Crawford kept the Pacers within three heading into the second quarter with a lay-up, making it 14-11, with 48 seconds remaining.

Down by nine at 20-11, Farrar and Crawford hit back-to-back shots in the paint, pulling USC Aiken within five at 20-15 with 7:14 to play before halftime. The Pacers trailed 25-19, but Chandler hit a pair of free throws with 2:19 to go. Sixty-one seconds later, Johnson hit a pair of charity tosses to make it a two-point contest. However, the Bobcats led 27-23 at the half.

Melyk Taouil's lay-up at the 5:13 mark of the third quarter pulled Miller's team within three at 36-33. Less than a minute later, Johnson converted an old-fashioned three-point play to make it a two-point game (38-36). The Pacers sliced the deficit to one when Taouil found Chandler for a three-point shot at the 3:31 mark. Chandler knotted the game at 44-44 on a shot from downtown off a pass from Johnson, but Georgia College scored six of the last seven points of the quarter for a 50-45 lead going to the fourth.

Trailing 61-50 with 5:41 to play in the game, Crawford and Chandler hit back-to-back shots. After a strong defensive effort, Johnson hit a lay-up to make it 61-56 with 3:44 to go. Crawford added two free throws for the final points of the 8-0 run. After the Bobcats made it 69-60, Crawford hit a three-ball with 42 seconds to play off a pass from Alex Canady. However, the home team managed to hold onto the lead and secure the win.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 24-of-66 from the floor (36.4 percent), including four-of-10 from downtown (40.0 percent). The squad hit 13-of-20 from the charity stripe (65.0 percent).

Miller's team snagged 48 rebounds to 34 by the home squad. USC Aiken maintained a 13-6 edge in second chance points and held a 32-28 advantage in the paint.
