AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to No. 3 Columbus State Saturday afternoon in a PBC contest.
The Pacers fall to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in league play. The Cougars improve to 9-0-1 overall and 6-0 against conference foes.
The Cougars jumped on the board in the fifth minute, but after that head coach
Hilary George's team stepped up to the challenge the remainder of the half.
Tashiana Kwatowski saved the next shot on goal by CSU, which came in the 10
th minute of action.
Charlotte Mannella fired the Pacers' first shot on goal in the 13
th minute, but it was saved.
Although USC Aiken was out-shot 14-4 in the first period, Kwatowski was up for the challenge, turning away six shots while keeping the contest at a 1-0 score entering the second half.
Four minutes into the second stanza, Mannella's cross was deflected out of bounds, giving the home team a corner kick. After earning a second straight corner kick,
Gressa Olson rocketed a shot toward the frame. However, it trickled just wide, keeping the score at 1-0.
Kwatowski continued to be up for the challenge in the early going of the second half, turning away shot after shot. However, the Cougars broke through for a 2-0 advantage in the 57
th minute of play.
The visitors tallied a late goal for the 3-0 win.
For the match, Kwatowski notched a career-high 13 saves while playing between the pipes for all 90 minutes.
