USC Aiken Drops Road Match

FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 3-2 decision at Francis Marion Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 2-7 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Gressa Olson took the first attempt of the match for USC Aiken, but her shot missed wide from 30 yards out in the fifth minute of play.

The home squad got on the board at the 16:02 mark and added another tally in the 20th minute of action.

Gressa Olson rocketed a shot toward the back of the net in the 21st minute, but it was saved by the keeper.

After starting the second half behind 2-0, head coach Hilary George's team battled back, knotting it at 2-2.

Gressa Olson and Charlotte Mannella recorded shots on goal in the opening moments of the second period. Baylea Payne's attempt hit the crossbar in the 53rd minute of play.

After a foul in the box by the Patriots, Willa Olson collected herself and blasted home the penalty kick, making it 2-1 at the 65:27 mark. In the 73rd minute, Lauren Signmon found Willa Olson for a shot from 14 yards out that Olson converted, knotting the contest at 2-2.

The match remained tied until the 85th minute when the home squad netted what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Despite trailing, George's team continued to push forward as Amanda Raleigh's shot in the 90th minute was saved.

For the match, USC Aiken held an 11-7 edge in shots , including a 7-6 margin in shots on goal.
