AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over Erskine Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 2-5 on the season while the Flying Fleet stand at 4-4-1.
The Pacers showed their dominance right out of the gate, with
Monica Armendariz grabbing the first goal in the just the fifth minute.
Gressa Olson stole the ball away from the Flying Fleet a mere 15 yards in front of their goal and passed it over to Armendariz who popped it right over the goalie's head to put USC Aiken up 1-0.
Erskine tried to fight back, grabbing both a shot and a corner kick before the Pacers gained a second goal 15 minutes later (20:25). This time
Gressa Olson put the ball in the back of the net off a blocked attempt by
Charlotte Mannella.
After a bevy of subs from both teams and a few more shot attempts by the Erskine, USC Aiken scored their third and final goal of the match in the 37th minute.
Willa Olson battled it out with the goalie, securing the 3-0 lead off a blocked shot of her own 5 yards out from the goal.
In the second half, the Pacers held the shutout, denying Erskine any success in their attempts to gain ground. USC Aiken put up a fight of their own, gaining four corner kicks in just the first 15 minutes of the half. Ultimately, neither team would fight the back of the net for the rest of the game.
For the match, USC Aiken held a 16-8 advantage in shots, including 6-5 on goal. They also reigned supreme in corner kicks, 7-1.
In goal,
Makenzie Cude had five saves between the pipes while playing all 90 minutes.
