AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 5-1 decision to Lander Wednesday evening in a league contest.
The Pacers are now 2-10 on the year and 0-7 in league play. The Bearcats are 9-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 against conference competition.
The teams played even throughout the first 10 minutes of work. Both squads had opportunities, but neither could convert. After a sensational save by

Hilary George's team went on the offensive. USC Aiken pushed forward and controlled the ball in the offensive third of the pitch, but the squad was unable to register a shot.
Trailing 1-0 in the 17
th minute,
Amanda Giordano rocketed a shot toward the back of the frame. However, Sarah Owen was up for the challenge, keeping it 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
The Pacers crowded the 18-yard box in the 35
th minute, but
Gressa Olson's shot was blocked. The ball sailed out of bounds, resulting in a corner kick. After
Willa Olson played the ball into the box, it was booted out by the Bearcats.
Willa Olson corralled it, turned and blasted a shot from 25 yards out, knotting the contest at 1-1.
In the 41
st minute, LU managed to net a second goal of the half for a 2-1 edge going into the second stanza.
The Bearcats tallied a score at the 45:50 mark, resulting in a 3-1 advantage.
USC Aiken tried to counter as Giordano ripped a shot in the 47
th minute, but it missed wide of the frame. LU countered, scoring two goals in a five-minute span for a 5-1 lead.
Despite trailing, USC Aiken continued to push forward and create chances.
Gressa Olson and
Willa Olson posted back-to-back shots that were stopped by the Bearcats' keeper in the 55
th minute of play.
Gressa Olson registered a pair of attempts that narrowly missed the mark.
Kwatowski played all 90 minutes between the pipes, recording five saves.
