Pacers Suffer Road Loss

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 5-0 decision at UNC Pembroke Monday evening in a league contest.

The Pacers are now 2-9 overall and 0-6 in league action. The Braves improve to 6-4 overall and 3-3 against conference foes.

After seeing UNCP's first attempt sail wide just 48 seconds into the match, head coach Hilary George's team went on the attack as Monica Armendariz blasted an attempt from the top of the box, but Gina Ryan managed to snag it, keeping the contest scoreless.

The Braves broke through with a goal in the 10th minute. Willa Olson's attempt to equalize the match sailed wide left at the 12:28 mark.

UNC Pembroke took a 2-0 lead in the 19th minute of action, but USC Aiken continued to push forward. Amanda Giordano's shot was stopped in the 22nd minute. A minute later, Giordano took a corner kick, but the team was unable to put a shot on goal.

Gressa Olson's shot was blocked at the 29:12 mark. Nicole Hayes tried to get the visitors on the board in the 43rd minute, but Ryan managed to register another save. Lauren Sigmon's shot just before halftime was also saved, keeping it 2-0 at the break.

Amanda Raleigh and Gressa Olson posted shots early in the second period, but neither found the back of the net. Tashiana Kwatowski followed suit moments later, but her attempt missed to the right.

The Braves posted two quick goals, coming in the 70th and 71st minutes, respectively, for a 4-0 advantage. George's team once again went on the attack as Gressa Olson and Baylea Payne registered shots immediately after the two scores by the home team, but both were wide of the post.

Carina Layug and Alyssa Broad each garnered shots in the final seven minutes of action.

For the match, USC Aiken posted 17 shots compared to 21 by the home team. Seven of the Pacers' attempts were on goal.

Makenzie Cude recorded four saves while Kwatowski stopped two shots. Both student-athletes played 45 minutes between the pipes.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Lander at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
