AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team tied Flagler Saturday afternoon by a 1-1 score.
The Pacers are now 3-4-2 overall and 0-2-2 in league play. The Saints are 3-7-1 on the year and 2-1-2 against conference foes.
After a hand ball in the box, redshirt-senior
Jordan Misiri pounded home the penalty kick, giving USC Aiken a 1-0 edge just 3:09 into the contest.
The Saints knotted it at 1-1 on a penalty kick in the 26
th minute of action.
Alejandro Chavarria registered a pair of outstanding saves in the first six-plus minutes of the second half, keeping the score at 1-1. Both of the sensational stops thwarted major advantages by the Saints.
Each squad had opportunities late in regulation, but neither could convert.
In the first minute of overtime, head coach
Ike Ofoje's team earned a pair of corner kicks. However, the Pacers were unable to convert either opportunity, rendering the contest tied at 1-1. USC Aiken drew a foul with under 10 seconds to go in the first extra period, but the pass in the box was deflected, sending the match into a second overtime period.
USC Aiken earned a free kick in the 103
rd minute, but
David Box's shot sailed just high of the frame.
At the 106:55 mark,
Andre Salviano took a corner kick and played it to Box, who headed it over the crossbar.
For the match, Chavarria played all 110 minutes between the pipes. He registered five stops in the contest.
