USC Aiken Falls At Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 60-42 decision at Clayton State Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 3-11 overall and 0-8 in league play. The Lakers are 7-7 on the year and 4-4 against conference competition.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was paced by Kyrie' Chandler's team-best 13 points. She connected on four-of-nine from the field, including a three-of-four effort from distance. Chandler also registered a steal.

Emily Waters contributed 10 markers in 21 minutes of action. Star Toomey notched four points, but snagged a team-best 11 rebounds – including five on the offensive glass. She also swatted away two shots by the home squad.

Marissa Bruce was held without a field goal, but garnered eight boards in 16 minutes of work. Melyk Taouil was also solid on the glass, pulling down seven rebounds.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 16-of-53 from the floor (30.2 percent), including three-of-11 from downtown (27.3 percent). The team buried seven-of-10 attempts from the charity stripe.

Miller's team accounted for 13 points off the bench while the Lakers' non-starters were held to 12 markers. In the second half, USC Aiken outscored the home team five-to-four in second-chance points.   

Trailing by 10 early on, the Pacers sliced the deficit to three at 10-7 on Toomey's lay-up with 4:38 to play in the first quarter. Down 15-9, Chandler took a pass from Taouil and buried a three-ball, making it a 15-12 contest. However, the Lakers were able to stretch the margin to double figures with a 33-21 lead at the break.

A jumper by Waters with 8:28 to play in the third trimmed the score to nine, 34-25, but it was as close as the visitors would get the rest of the way.
