USC Aiken Falls At Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 74-58 contest at Flagler Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 3-10 on the season and 0-7 in league play. The Saints improve to 8-3 overall and 6-1 against conference competition.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was paced by Emily Waters' game-high 14 points. She snagged a squad-best eight rebounds in 28 minutes of action. Melyk Taouil totaled 11 points and shared team-best accolades with eight boards. Taouil also distributed a squad-high five assists while swatting three shots.

Star Toomey contributed seven points, five rebounds and a steal in 15 minutes of work. Kyrie' Chandler played all but one minute, totaling eight points to go along with four assists.

Trailing 3-0 in the early going, Waters made a pair of free throws. Celine Vega drilled a three-ball off a pass from Chandler at the 7:05 mark for a 5-3 advantage. The teams battled back-and-forth over the next three minutes. Allenia Ponder netted a jumper at the 4:22 mark for an 8-7 lead. However, the Saints went on a 10-3 run to close out the quarter.

Miller's team responded in the second frame immediately. Waters hit a lay-up off a pass from Taouil. Then, Taouil canned a three-pointer, making it a 17-16 contest.

A late spurt by the Saints made it a 36-27 game at the break. The teams played nearly even in the third quarter, but USC Aiken was unable to slice into the fourth-quarter deficit.   

For the game, Miller's team hit 21-of-55 shots from the floor (37.5 percent), including three-of-20 from downtown. The squad connected on 13-of-18 from the charity stripe (72.2 percent). USC Aiken held a 9-2 edge in fast break points.
