HARROGATE, Tenn. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 2-1 decision at Lincoln Memorial Friday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 2-3 on the young season.
After falling behind 1-0 in the 33
rd minute of action, head coach
Hilary George's team continued to battle back.
Tashiana Kwatowski had an excellent chance in the 42
nd minute, but her attempt was blocked by the defense, sending the contest into halftime with the score 1-0.
Kwatowski unleashed another shot on frame at the 48:06 mark, but the Railsplitters' keeper was up to the challenge.
Catherine McHale and
Tori Caldwell each took shots on the target in the next two minutes, but McHale's was saved while Caldwell narrowly missed high of the crossbar.
Sarah Moore,
Sarah Drury and
Amanda Giordano tallied attempts through the 70
th minute of play, but the score remained at 1-0.
In the 81
st minute of play, Caldwell took the corner kick for George's squad and quickly found rookie
Marissa Lee, who one-timed it past the keeper to knot the score at one apiece.
The home team countered and netted what turned out to be the game-winning goal less than a minute later.
Caldwell and
Gressa Olson registered shots in the final 1:40, but both were blocked.
For the match, USC Aiken outshot the home team 17-10, including a 5-4 edge in shots on frame.
Karin Cadwalader played all 90 minutes between the pipes, stopping a pair of shots.
