Pacers Knock Off Crusaders

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team earned a hard fought 1-0 win at North Greenville Wednesday evening in a non-conference contest.

The Pacers are now 2-2 on the young season.

Head coach Hilary George's team pushed forward early and often. Tori Caldwell booted the first shot of the contest 76 seconds in, but it was stopped by the keeper. Willa Olson and Gressa Olson each attempted shots in the first 10 minutes of action, but neither found the back of the net.

Marissa Lee had a pair of shots that were saved in the 32nd minute, but she continued pushing forward. At the 41:12 mark, Lee blasted home her first career goal for a 1-0 edge.

Willa Olson's shot in the 58th minute was stopped. Amanda Giordano took a corner kick in the 63rd minute, but nobody was able to connect for a score.

The Crusaders had three solid attempts in the waning minutes of action, but Katie Commins came up huge at the 84:59 mark. Then, the home team had one shot blocked and another sailed just wide of the frame with 1:49 to play.

For the match, George's team outshot its counterpart 15-6, including an 8-2 margin on goal.

Cadwalader stopped a shot in the first half while Commins thwarted an attempt in the second period for the shutout.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they travel to Lincoln Memorial for a match starting at 2 p.m. Live stats at PacerSports.com.
