AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-1 contest to visiting Young Harris Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are now 3-7 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Mountain Lions stand at 5-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference action.
After a scoreless first half, head coach
Hilary George's team continued pushing forward in the opening minutes of the second stanza and it paid off.
Amanda Giordano fired a shot on frame in the 51
st minute, but it was saved. After two stops by
Karin Cadwalader, USC Aiken broke through with a goal in the 59
th minute.
Catherine McHale found
Gressa Olson slicing through the defense. McHale slid Olson the ball and she managed to play the ball past the diving keeper for the 1-0 lead.
Olson put up another tough shot in the 63
rd minute, but the keeper managed to stop it.
Casey Rish registered a shot on target in the 71
st minute, but another save kept the score at 1-0.
After a flurry of shots in a 10-minute span that narrowly missed, USC Aiken saw the visitors knot the score at 1-1 at the 87:42 mark. Less than two minutes later, the Mountain Lions netted the game-winner from 10 yards out.
For the match, USC Aiken outshot YHC 14-12. The team had eight shots on goal compared to six by the visitors. Cadwalader recorded four saves while playing all 90 minutes.
