SALISBURY, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 5-0 decision at Catawba Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 3-6 on the season. The Indians improve to 5-2.
Head coach
Hilary George's team registered a shot on frame in the ninth minute of action when
Sarah Moore blasted an attempt, but it was stopped by the keeper.
The home team opened the scoring a minute later. Catawba tacked on a goal in the 16
th minute of play and another at the 22:20 mark.
Trailing 3-0, USC Aiken continued to push forward. After a handful of sensational saves by
Karin Cadwalader, the Pacers maintained possession in the offensive third of the pitch. The team earned a pair of corner kicks in the 36
th minute and
Sarah Drury rocketed a shot on frame, but Shelby Thompson stopped it.
Neither team posted a shot the last 8:04 of the first half.
The home squad tacked on a pair of second-half goals for the final tally. In the final 45 minutes of play, USC Aiken registered two shots on goal. The first came via the boot of Moore in the 52
nd minute of action while the second attempt came from
Gressa Olson in the 77
th minute.
For the match, Cadwalader played all 90 minutes between the pipes. She stopped 11 shots in the contest.
USC Aiken was outshot 26-9, including 16-5 on goal. George's team tallied two corner kicks while the Indians accounted for four.
