USC Aiken Shuts Out Georgia Southwestern, 3-0

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon in a league contest.

The Pacers are now 3-5 overall and 1-2 against conference competition.

Catherine McHale gave head coach Hilary George's team all it would need.

After dominating the first half of play, but with the score still at 0-0, the Pacers pushed forward and a foul was called in the box on the visitors.

McHale lined up the ball at the 26:07 mark and promptly rocketed home the ball into the lower left of the goal for a 1-0 edge.

USC Aiken continued applying pressure on the Hurricanes, but ended up with a 1-0 lead at the break.

Seven shots by the home squad were unable to find the back of the net in the early going of the second period. However, McHale pushed the Pacers' advantage to 2-0 in the 72nd minute.

After stealing a pass near midfield, she dribbled to the left side of the pitch toward the frame. From 10 yards out, she crossed the ball past the outstretched keeper into the lower right of the goal for a 2-0 lead.

USC Aiken tacked on its third goal of the match in the 87th minute of action. Amanda Giordano blasted a corner kick into the box. Marissa Lee corralled it and promptly booted it into the left side of the net for the final tally.

For the match, the Pacers outshot the visitors 31-3, including15s -0 on goal. USC Aiken had seven corner kicks compared to three for the Hurricanes.

Karin Cadwalader played all 90 minutes between the pipes in the victory.
