AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 22 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 11-6 contest to Flagler in the series finale Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 24-10 on the season and 9-6 in league play. The Saints improve to 22-14 overall and 10-5 against conference foes.
After falling behind 11-0 through the first 4.5 innings, head coach
Kenny Thomas' team got on the board with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Zach Moon led off the inning with a hard hit ball to the shortstop. An error allowed him to reach safely. Two batters later,
Daulton Weeks got the Pacers on the board with a mammoth shot over the left field wall, making it 11-2.
With two down,
Jose Bonilla reached on an error.
Joey Smithers drew a walk as did
Mitchell Price to load the bags.
Nile Goings ripped a single to the gap in left center field, plating Bonilla and Smithers for an 11-4 score.
Jonathan Banks followed him up with a base hit to score Price, ending the stanza with the score at 11-5.
USC Aiken cut into the deficit in the eighth when
Brian Parreira launched a solo shot over the right field wall, making it 11-6.
For the game, Weeks led the way with three hits. He drove in a pair as did Goings. Banks registered two hits in the contest.
