USC Aiken Garners Victory Over Augusta University In Series Opener

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 22 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team posted a 5-2 victory over Augusta Friday evening in Peach Belt Conference action.

The Pacers improve to 25-10 on the season, including a 10-6 mark in league play. The Jaguars fall to 15-18 overall and 7-9 against conference foes.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, head coach Kenny Thomas' team plated a pair of runs in the second.

With one down, Brian Parreira ripped a single to center field and promptly scored when Jonathan Banks rocketed a double to center field. Two batters later, Daulton Weeks drove home Banks for a 2-1 edge.

The Jaguars tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the third. The score remained knotted until the bottom of the sixth.

With one down, Banks roped a single to left center field and moved to second when Conner Durden smacked a single to right field. Weeks doubled home Banks for a 3-2 lead. Two batters later, Jose Bonilla singled home Durden and Weeks for the 5-3 advantage.

With Joseph Benitez on the mound, USC Aiken cruised through the seventh inning. Benitez was once again strong with his outing. He struck out six batters and gave up just two runs – one earned – on eight hits.

Hunter Dollander worked the final two frames en route to earning the save. He faced seven batters and struck out two. Dollander gave up one hit but only threw 29 pitches.

For the game, Banks and Weeks registered two hits apiece. Bonilla and Weeks drove in two runs apiece while Banks trotted across home plate twice.
